KOTA DUSSEHRA


Dussehra also called "Vijayadashmi" symbolizes the triumph of Rama an avatar of Shri Vishnu over the 10-Headed demon king Ravana and the triumph of Goddess Durga over the demon buffalo-Mahishasur. The festival's name is derived from the Sanskrit wors Dasha("ten") and Hara("defeat").



Although this festival is celebrated all over the country, but in Kota- this joyous festival begins with the excitement of people to visit and be a part of enthralling fairs and cultural events.





To ensure success in every endeavor and bring the message of being in reverence and gratitude towards everything by burning 70-75 feet tall effigies of Ravan, his brother Kumbakaran and his son Meghanath and removing bad fate and celebrating the victory of good over evil. 




In Kota, Dussehra is celebrated for 25 days every year. At the occasion, a fair is organized which starts on the first day of Navratri and goes on till a day before the Dhanteras festival which marks the beginning of Deepawali.






The tradition of the Dussehra fair was started in 1723 AD by Maharao Durjanshal Singh Hada.






Kota is well connected by Road, Rail, Air.
