"Thrissur is also known as by its former name Trichur. Thrissur is a city of state Kerala(INDIA) is known as "God's own land" . The term Thrissur is the abbreviated anglicized form of the Malayalam word ‘THRISSIVAPERUR’ which means the town of the “SACRED SIVA”. The town is built on an elevated ground, at the apex of which is the famous “VADAKKUMNATHAN” Temple. A place of great antiquity, Thrissur was also known as “VRISHABHADRIPURAM” and “TEN KAILASAM” in ancient days.

How to Reach
By Road
Thrissur can be
accessed by road through the neighbouring Districts of Ernakulam (Cochin),
Palakkad and Malappuram. National High Way 47 passes nearby and passes through
Mannuthy, 6 km away from Thrissur city. Many private buses and KSRTC buses
plying on this route.
By Rail
Thrissur Railway
Station is one of the major stations in India. There is another station called
Poonkunnam in the north of Thrissur. Passenger trains and a few more express
trains stop here. Guruvayur, the most prominent place of worship in Kerala is
in Thrissur and it is well connected by rail.
By Air
The nearest airport
to Thrissur is the Cochin International Airport located at Nedumbassery. There
is a distance of 50 km distance from Thrissur to this Airport. It is easily
accessible by road from Thrissur.
